The adults are a greyish colour with dark bands on their forewings and the colour of their hindwings are off-white. They measure around 10-14mm long with the wings folded and have a wingspan of 20 to 25mm. The larvae measure around 15-20mm, they are white with the head and posterior parts a brown colour. They pupate by enclosing themselves inside a cocoon that they spin themselves, in which foodstuffs and excrement are also incorporated from the larva itself.
Adults are nocturnal, resting during the day on walls and ceilings or in piles of contaminated flour. Females lay around 200 to 300 eggs. Larvae weave a silky lining from birth in which they remain throughout their lives. Plus, they wrap themselves in an even more consistent cocoon to pupate. The number of generations varies depending on environmental conditions. At 25ºC and 75% relative humidity, the cycle is completed in 40-45 days. In warehouses and mills heated in winter, development is continuous, reaching up to 6 or 7 generations.

The larvae live preferably in cereal flour, but they can also cause damage to previously attacked grain, semolina, oat flour (oatmeal), pasta and sometimes nuts, etc

1 to 3 traps should be used for every room in the warehouse and must also be placed at least 5 metres apart from each other. The traps must remain active all year round in warehouses with products
The males of this species are captured for the purpose of reducing mating, so that the unfertilised females will lay unviable eggs. In this way, the pest population is reduced.
For mass trapping the number is increased to 4 traps for every 100m² of warehouse, separated at least 5 metres apart.

The trap ECONEX FOLDING WHITE TRIANGULAR without sheets is activated by placing an ECONEX PLASTIC SHEET FOR TRIANGULAR TRAP 1 UNIT at the base. The sheet is impregnated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, without solvents, in which the insects remain trapped.
