The adult is oval-shaped and measures 1.6 to 3mm long, with the male being smaller than the female. The general colour of the insect is reddish-brown, with very fine hairs that cover the body completely. The larva is a yellowish-white colour with brown hairs covering the head and body completely.
Trogoderma granarium adult
The Khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) prefers to attack cereals (wheat and barley, but also rice, corn, oats etc.), although it can be found less frequently on legumes (beans, peas, lentils, for example). It always lays on the surface of the stored grain, without penetrating the deepest layers.
Trogoderma granarium larvae
1 to 3 traps should be used for every room in the warehouse and must also be placed at least 5 metres apart from each other. The traps must remain active all year round in warehouses with products.
The males of this species are captured for the purpose of reducing mating, so that the unfertilised females will lay unviable eggs. In this way, the pest population is reduced.
For mass trapping the number is increased to 4 traps for every 100m² of warehouse, separated at least 5 metres apart.
