The adults measure approximately 1.4cm. The body and wings are an ochreous brown with white highlights on the body.
The female can lay more than 150 eggs. The incubation period is 4 to 10 days in summer, but can require 1 to 3 months until the pupal stage is achieved. The caterpillars then spin their cocoons and spend almost another 10–50 days maturing into adulthood.

The larvae feed on wool, leather, feathers, silk and other similar fabrics. The damaged fabric shows furrows on the surface, formed by the larvae “grazing”. Occasionally and during heavy infestations, the fabric will show holes.
1 to 3 traps should be used for every room in the warehouse and must also be placed at least 5 metres apart from each other. The traps must remain active all year round in warehouses with products.
The males of this species are captured for the purpose of reducing mating, so that the unfertilised females will lay unviable eggs. In this way, the pest population is reduced.
For mass trapping the number is increased to 4 traps for every 100m² of warehouse, separated at least 5 metres apart.
The following traps and pheromone can be used: ECONEX POLILLERO, ECONEX FOLDING WHITE TRIANGULAR without sheets or ECONEX DISPOSABLE WHITE TRIANGULAR and pheromone diffuser ECONEX TINEOLA BISSELLIELLA with 40 days’ duration.
The trap ECONEX FOLDING WHITE TRIANGULAR without sheets is activated by placing an ECONEX PLASTIC SHEET FOR TRIANGULAR TRAP 1 UNIT at the base. The sheet is impregnated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, without solvents, in which the insects remain trapped.
